Business NH Magazine and the NH Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives announced the winners of the 2023 Businesses of the Year Awards, which includes Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium as the Business Services winner. Winners will be featured in the May issue of Business NH Magazine.
According to Business NH Magazine, the companies were chosen because of leadership in their industries, commitment to their communities, and involvement with their local chambers of commerce.
A Panel of Excellence comprised of executives from last year’s winning companies selected the winners based on the applicant’s financial health, industry leadership, community involvement, and letters of recommendation from chamber executives and business leaders.
“Our team is extremely proud and humbled by this announcement,” Phaneuf President, and fourth-generation funeral director, Arthur “Buddy” Phaneuf said. “While we value the traditions and methods that have helped build our industry, we are consistently aware of developments and emerging ideas on death, dying, grieving and end-of-life services as well as the evolution in how consumers research, shop, engage with companies and make purchases.”
Several prominent members of the NH business community sent recommendation letters on Phaneuf’s behalf, including Mike Skelton, president and CEO of the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire.
“Buddy Phaneuf consistently brings a progressive mentality to the business he took over from his father, John, in 1989. It was a yearlong endeavor a decade ago that truly saw the approach to customer service elevate at the longtime business. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium earned the Achievement of Excellence, the highest level of recognition in the Granite State Quality Awards, based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award,” Skelton wrote. “Phaneuf accomplished its performance excellence recognition for its customer-focused culture and approach to growing and sustaining a family-owned business in an industry where large corporate chains are the norm. This is not your ‘grandfather’s’ stuffy funeral home. The entire team at Phaneuf strives for continuous improvement.”
The winners will be celebrated at the Business and Business Leader of the Year Awards Luncheon on May 25 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown Manchester Hotel. As no awards ceremony was held during the pandemic, this year’s ceremony celebrates winners from 2023, 2022 and 2021.
