(MANCHESTER, NH) — The non-profit Phaneuf Family Foundation awarded its first scholarship to Nicole Judge, a mortuary student at FINE Mortuary College.
“We received a number of applications, and we were very impressed with Nicole, based on her submitted essays, grade point average and career focus,” said Arthur O. “Buddy” Phaneuf, President of Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium. Phaneuf also serves as a trustee and Chairman of the Board of the foundation. “It’s important – and exciting – to help support the next generation of funeral industry professionals.”
Nicole is a resident of Peterborough and is working as an apprentice with Jellison Funeral Home in Peterborough and Cournoyer Funeral Home in Jaffrey, in addition to attending mortuary school. She previously worked in the social services field after she received a degree in Psychology from Keene State University.
Phaneuf Family Foundation offers $1,000 scholarships to students who are currently accepted at or attending mortuary college. Students may apply at any time, and scholarships are awarded in December each year, sent directly to the school. Students may apply via the foundation’s website.
Phaneuf Family Foundation formed in 2019. In addition to awarding scholarships, the foundation’s mission includes:
- Providing financial assistance for funeral or cremation arrangements for New Hampshire and Vermont families that cannot afford to finalize a service.
- Providing monetary support to hospice and other caregiver organizations in NH and VT.
